Our classes
Every body is different. Every journey is different. That’s why we don’t run one-size-fits-all classes. Whether you’re brand new to Pilates or you’ve been practising for years, we’ll find the right starting point for you and evolve your practice as your body grows stronger.
You want to see results and that's what we deliver. Our classes are kept small to ensure you get the best workout possible on our apparatus. You actually get 65% more in our classes when you compare the experience of our team, the quality of our equipment and size of our classes to other studios and classes elsewhere.

We will guide your body through each class as Joseph Pilates intended, with precision and control ensuring your body gets a bespoke workout. In a small group of no more than 4 (reformer) or 6 (mat), you’ll learn the equipment, the movement vocabulary, and how your body responds.

Mat Based Classes
For many the journey starts here. The majority of people have tried mat classes as it is the most accessible. Our mat based classes offer something for everyone - online and in person.

With only 6 in a class you will be corrected and supported to get the most out of the mat, and being honest most clients find our classes more challenging than you may have tried previously. With only 6 in a class there is nowhere to hide!

Our mat based workshops support ageing, back pain, sports performance, flexibility and there's even a dedicated one just for men, because Joseph Pilates originally created his system for the male body and we think men will love the way we teach classes.

Regardless of the class you attend - prepare to get sweaty!

Your Pilates Journey Starts Here
Whether you’ve never tried Pilates or you’ve been practising for years at another studio*, we will move you well. Pilates is not a fitness class it is a movement class. Pilates is a way to give you the ability to move well for longer. We teach exactly that; movement and empowerment. We give you the awareness to move well, we call it autonomy. The goal is to use our studio and practice this method without us constantly telling you what to do. You get to immerse yourself in Pilates with experts ensuring you get it right from the start.

*We highly advise all new clients start with our foundation classes regardless of experience.

FOUNDATIONS

These classes are for: Everyone. If you are new to the studio, a complete beginner or experienced elsewhere. Returning from rehab or injury or just want to deepen the foundations of Pilates.

Foundations is where your journey begins. In a small, supportive group, you’ll learn the equipment, the core movement principles, foundational exercises, learn the language and how your body responds to Pilates. Our teachers will correct, guide, and support you every step of the way. There’s no rush to progress, some clients love Foundations and stay here. There’s no rush, no pressure, and no experience required. When you’re ready, you’ll move into Progressions, where your practice becomes truly individual.

You will find Foundation classes in Matwork, Reformer & Apparatus

Progressions

These classes are for: Clients who’ve completed Foundations and are ready for more. You speak our language, and have little to no injuries or health conditions that stop your moving.

This is what makes The Cornwall Pilates Studio fundamentally different from any other studio. In a Progressions class, you may be working on a different exercise to the person next to you. Your exercises, your resistance, your focus — all tailored to what your body needs. The teacher moves between clients, correcting, progressing, and challenging each person collectively or individually depending on who is in the class on the day. It’s not a group fitness class. It’s a individualised movement session delivered in a small group setting.

You will find Progression classes in Matwork, Reformer & Apparatus

FAQ's
What is a Reformer Class?
Reformer Classes are a 55 minute class of up to 4 people on a piece of apparatus called a Reformer. The Reformer has 5 springs, a carriage and straps. Each exercise you do has a specific resistance for you to work with or against. Lighter resistance does not necessarily mean easier! In each class you will explore every possible way your body can move and be challenged.
What is an Apparatus Class?
Apparatus classes introduce you to more of the Pilates method. In this class you will use the tower, mat, spine corrector and magic circle. It is designed as a progression class for those who are confident in our R1 classes because rather than control the two straps of the reformer, you will have to control two legs and two springs that all want to do different things! It is a full body workout aimed at clients who no limiting injuries or pathologies.
How do I know what class to join?
We believe that with the right class you can achieve your goals, and it is also important that we uphold that for all our clients. We offer all clients a FREE 15 minute discovery call to help you choose the right class for you
I've done Pilates for years can I just join any class?
We recommend starting with a Foundations class so you can get to know our equipment and our teaching style. Most experienced clients find this valuable even if they’ve been practising for years; our approach to precision and individual correction is often quite different from what people have experienced elsewhere. You can always move into Progressions quickly if you’re ready. We suggest you discuss your experience with us first on a FREE 15 minute Discovery call or book a 1:1 session and let us find out exactly what classes are the best for you.
Why are your classes more expensive that other studios locally?
Because they’re a fundamentally different experience. You actually get 65% more in our classes when you compare the experience of our team, the quality of our equipment and size of our classes. With a maximum of 4 people on the reformer (most studios have 8–12), you receive at least twice the individual attention. You're working with experts or those being trained by an expert. The level of training is not comparable. And in our Progressions classes, your programme is individualised to your body; not a generic routine that everyone follows. The investment reflects the quality of what you receive.
What’s the difference between your studio and the reformer classes at gyms and other studios?
Most reformer studios teach group fitness classes where everyone works out to music, with HIIT style training and does the same exercises at the same time with little correction on a Reformer. Our teachers have a more in depth understanding and teach the Pilates method; a full system spanning reformer, mat, and apparatus, coupled with individualised programming that evolves with you. Our Progressions classes may have four people doing four different things based on what their body needs. We’re also the only studio in the area fully equipped with all the Pilates apparatus, which enables work that a reformer alone can’t deliver.
What should I wear and bring to class?
We ask that you bring minimal belongings to class as our client waiting area is small. In regards what to wear, we ask that you bring clean grip socks with you to change into for class and be changed to start working out. Most female clients wear leggings, a supportive sports bra (either with no clasp or front fastening), a vest top to class and bring a jumper. Most male clients wear supportive shorts or leggings and a T-shirt. Jogging bottoms that are not too baggy are also a good choice.
Why do I have to grip socks?
For safety and hygiene reasons we ask you to wear clean unworn grip socks in class. If you forget to bring them to class you will be expected to buy a new pair. There's a lot of foot correction in class and our teachers love correcting you, but they much prefer to correct clean fresh socks rather than those that got sweaty in trainers travelling to the studio or those that got wet from a puddle on the high street.
